WGM Janelle Mae Frayna to grace chess exhibition

THE country’s first Women Grand Master (WGM) Janelle Mae Frayna will grace a simultaneous chess exhibition set this July 8 at the Kadayawan Hall of the NCCC Mall of Davao.

According to IA/FT James Infiesto of the organizing National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Region XI chapter, it will be a meet and greet with country’s first WGM which will be spice up of the whole day activity.

Frayna, 20; achieved her historic feat during the recent 42nd World Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan.  She clinched the third and final WGM result with a 33-move draw with International Master Daavademberel Nomin-Erdene in a stinging 1.5-2.5 decision to 15th seed Mongolia after the ninth round. Frayna scored 6 points on 4 wins and 4 draws against just one loss in 9 games.

The whole day activity to be held at the NCCC Mall of Davao will be a simultaneous  chess exhibition to some 30 entries only. Plus these participating entries will have a lecture from Grand Master (GM) Jayson Gonzales, Frayna’s  personal trainer and coach at Far Eastern University.

“The simultaneous game will be on a first come, first serve basis for interested chess players. Registration will be on July 7 starting at 1 p.m. at the Kadayawan Hall of the NCCC Mall of Davao,” Infiesto said.

Registration fee is pegged at P750 inclusive of a t-shirt and certificate of participation.
