Art Talk, the monthly press forum on the city’s art and culture scene, took part in this year’s celebration by highlighting various art events in Davao.

The exhibit features the works of Monica Bustamante, Leo Patos, Aran Neil Espra, Kim Pombo, Jeramie Cutin, Rey Mark Gipulao,

According to Lequigan, their group is also doing a free art workshop in a Badjao community in Matina Aplaya on February 24.

“We will also be distributing art materials good for 70 persons, which Holiday Gym and Spa donated as a result of our meeting with Holiday manager Ivy Fernandez in last month’s Art Talk,” he revealed.

From the proceeds of funds they raised from the workshop, the Davao Artists group pledged to donate monobloc chairs for the community school.

“Our objective is for kids to properly channel their expression aside from harnessing and honing their skills in the art,” Lequigan added. The group will also do the same to other urban communities in the city.

Davao Artists will also participate in next month’s Visit Davao Summer Festival with an exhibit at the 2nd level of Victoria plaza.

Seasoned writers and poet Tita Ayala and Lia Lopez Chua also joined Art Talk as they also headlined the launch of The Road Map Series last February 14 at Kublai Kafe in Ponce Suites.

“Our first Road Map series was released 37 years ago. We used paper as big as a broadsheet, then folded to make pages. It contained 16 poems plus biography of our featured artist,” Ayala recalled.

The publication was printed in very limited copies that’s why every issue was a collector’s item.

“Tita (Ayala) was telling me about restarting the Road Map series second generation with my new collection of poems called ‘Elsewhere of Memory’,” Chua said.

The launch featured poetry reading and discussions between local poets, fiction writers and essayists.

“We all need that space where we can talk about art – what artists are doing, where we can hang out and share each other’s energy,” she added.

Ayyi Gardiola of Aguus Initiatives also invited the public for their workshop on the ancient baybayin language by Hibla Sanghabi Castro on February 26, at the Weimann Building of the Ateneo de Davao University.

AIRASIA SUPPORTS VISIT DAVAO SUMMER FESTIVAL. AirAsia has signed a Memorandum of Agreement last February 17 with Davao tourism represented by Visit Davao Summer Festival execom chairman Benjamin Lizada and Department of Tourism XI director Antonio Blanco.
