Vehicular accidents reduced in first half of the year

VEHICULAR accidents in the city have reduced in the first half of the year compared to last year’s figure, the police traffic group said.

Supt. Ernesto Castillo, the chief of Traffic Group under the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said they noted a 44.15 percent decrease.

Castillo said they recorded just around 4,000 vehicular accidents from January to June this year. In the same period last year, they responded to around 7,700 cases.

The traffic chief cited the strict and intensified operation of law enforcers to the reduction of the incidents.

Castillo said their operations against erring drivers will continue.

Of the 4,000 vehicular accidents for the first half of the year, 31 individuals died while 2,231 were wounded.

Data shows that reckless driving is the common reason to the vehicular accidents.

Drivers of private vehicles top the list of those involved in accidents, followed by drivers of motorcycles and taxi cabs.

Castillo urged drivers to be always careful and obey traffic rules to prevent accidents.
