UP Mindanao shines in regional SCUAA

UP Mindanao fielded a delegation of 65 athletes in eight varsity teams to compete in the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association Region 11 meet held October 26-29 in Tagum City.

The UP Mindanao contingent brought home 29 gold medals, 10 silver medals, 1 bronze medal, and one team trophy. The swimming varsity won 28 of the gold medals, eight of the silver medals, and one bronze medal, to emerge as over-all champions in the swim events. The women’s football varsity, on the other hand, were undefeated in four matches in the futsal (indoor football) event to emerge as over-all champions, receiving a team gold medal and a trophy carved by inmates of Davao Penal Colony.

 In addition, the chess women’s and badminton women’s varsity teams each won a silver medal in their team events. Also competing in their respective events were the volleyball women’s team, the chess men’s team, the table tennis men’s team, and the newly-formed basketball men’s team.

 The SCUAA Region 11 meet saw teams from Compostela Valley State College, Davao del Norte State College, Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology, Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), University of Southeastern Phils. North and South Teams, and UP Mindanao. The winning teams and athletes will represent Region 11 in the national SCUAA National Meet to be held in February 2018.
