MAYOR Rody Duterte checks out the University of the Philippines’ perspective of its 20-hectare sports complex which will be at its university campus in Mintal. The sports facility includes a multi-purpose training gym, practice fields for football, tennis courts, a sports arena, archery and practical shooting range, indoor basketball, adventure sports, and aquatics.

THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines on Thursday revealed for the first time its master plan for the 20-hectare sports complex at the university’s campus in Mintal during the signing of a memorandum of undersfanding between the city and UP officials.

Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and UP president Alfredo Pascual signed the document that would create a technical working group for the drafting of a memorandum of agreement between both parties.

According to university campus architect Mary Katherine Diaz, the facility will be completed in several phases, with a first face composing the creation of a multipurpose building, a gymnasium as well as roads and lights amounting to 300 million pesos.

Sports facilities include a multi-purpose training gym, practice fields for football, tennis courts, a sports arena, archery and practical shooting range, indoor basketball, adventure sports, and aquatics.

There will also be dormitories and medical buildings, low rise commercial blocks, parking buildings, power house and pump house, a country club, and athletes accommodation.

Duterte was authorized by the City Council to sign the document earlier this year.

He said he was impressed by the design.

Diaz said the design would “adhere to international sports standards.”

Ths entire facility costs P8 billion, with the initial P300 million funding phase one of the project.
