Uncle to face case for murder of girl, 6

INVESTIGATORS are preparing murder with rape charge against the uncle of the 6-year-old girl whose body was dumped on a vacant lot in Barangay Aliongto, Tuesday afternoon.

Sr. Insp. Noel Villahermosa, Sasa Police Precinct commander, said investigators are still preparing the case against Edgar Joseph Lucero, 21, who was arrested yesterday afternoon.

Villahermosa explained that initially, investigators were first focusing their attention on Ariosto Lumayas, 34, after an unidentified cousin of the victim, Lea Bea Lopez Lucero, identified him as the last person seen with the latter.

But when investigators checked the footage of the closed circuit television camera, they identified her uncle as the very person who was with her. The suspect is the cousin of the victim’s mother.

“The suspect already confessed that he raped and killed the victim because he was drunk, and he’s asking for forgiveness,” Villahermosa said, adding that they are still waiting for the results of the autopsy to be attached to the complaint.

Based on the police report, someone reported to the precinct that a girl’s body was found at the place, prompting a team of investigators to check the report.

On Sunday, the victim’s another uncle, Gilbert Lucero, was drinking with Lumayas and the suspect asked her to buy coffee. The girl failed to return.

The suspect apparently followed the victim and led her to the vacant lot where the crime occurred.

Another cousin, a 10-year old boy, remembered where he last saw the victim and her uncle.
