Two ‘MNLF members’ fall for gun possession

TWO ALLEGED members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) are facing criminal charges before the Office of the City Prosecutor for carrying unlicensed firearms last April 17.

McArthur Veloso, 35, and Alexander Mercado, 52, both residents of Barangay Katubao, Kiamba, Sarangani province, were sued for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

Veloso and Mercado are now temporarily held in Toril Police Precinct while waiting for Prosecutor Imee Bisera-Mabale to resolve their case.

Based on the police report, the suspects were driving a blue Ford Nissan pick-up with plate number LCR-823 bound to Davao City from Sarangani around 3:55 p.m.

However, during the inspection at the Task Force Davao (TFD) checkpoint, authorities recovered firearms and ammunition in their possession. They were arrested as they failed to present proof allowing them to carry firearms.

Veloso and Mercado were brought to Toril Police Precinct.

Seized from them were two caliber .45 pistols along with around 70 bullets, which were all turned over to the custody of the Toril police.
