Trade missions set for SK, China and Australia

THE NATIONAL government will conduct three trade missions in two Asian countries and in Down Under.

Beginning today until July 23, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Assistant Secretary Romeo Montenegro said they will have a trade mission to South Korea. There would be also trade missions in Australia next month and China by September.

“Our role there is to make sure that Mindanao is given a slot in terms of investment promotions so that we will be able to convey the situation of Mindanao and tell them that investment opportunities remain vibrant and available in spite of what happened in Marawi City,” Montenegro said.

This is part of the annual undertaking of Philippine Investment Promotion Program (PIPP). The program is under Department of Trade and Industry and Board of Investments (BOI).

The PIPP also includes MinDA, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao-Regional BOI and economic zones in Mindanao. “This is annual undertaking of PIPP to roll out investment promotions in specific targeted markets,” Montenegro said.

In the trade mission at Australia, Montenegro said they will stage it particularly in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The trade mission in China, meanwhile, is anchoring on Philippines’ participation on the annual China-Asean Expo in Nanning.

Apart from these undertakings organized by the national government, the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. in partnership with MinDA will conduct a trade mission to Manado, Indonesia to help sustain the Davao-General Santos-Bitung shipping route.

“This is part of the efforts to finalize arrangements for trade activities for the roll-on/roll-off that ply the new route,” Montenegro said.
