Tourism group to hold skills tilt in September

THE DAVAO Tourism Association (DATA) is set to stage the three-day culinary and service skill competition next month at Abreeza Mall.

Renato Gatchalian, president of DATA, said the competition, “Kusdelsur or Kulinarya ug Serbisyo of the South.” will be conducted on September 26-28.

“The theme for this year is Flavors of the South as we embark on defining the real cuisine this part of the country,” Gatchalian said.

The competition was formally launched on Aug. 1 at Marco Polo Davao Hotel during Turismo Café.

Gatchalian said the event will have 15 contests on the following categories such as on food, drinks, service, cake decorating and housekeeping. The food includes appetizer, soup-salad-sandwich, pasta, main dish and chocolate dessert.

The service, meanwhile, includes fine dining service, table skirting, centerpiece, bride and groom table setting. The contest for housekeeping covers bed making and towel folding.

The competition is supported by the City Tourism Operations Office, Department of Tourism XI, The Holiday Business Group, Ginebra San Miguel and Abreeza Ayala Mall.

“Cash prizes and medals are at stakes for this year’s winners,” DATA said in a statement.

In a statement, the DATA said there would be also talks with demo on topics such as service standards, current trends on mixology, President Duterte in your coffee-a latte art demo and new styles in table setting.

“Guest chefs from Manila will be invited,” DATA said. This includes Chef Brando Santos who already confirmed attendance.
