OUTGOING President Benigno Aquino III has been criticized by people who described him as leader who is lacking empathy to the suffering Filipino people.

“You know I looked for definition of empathy because, actually, I cannot understand if that criticism has basis,” Aquino said in an interview.

The President said: “Empathy is the capacity to understand or feel what another being is experiencing from within the other being’s frame of reference, i.e., the capacity to place oneself in another’s position.”

He then cited many tragic events that took place during the time of his outgoing administration, such as the Typhoon Yolanda. He said during those times he did his best as Chief Executive that showed his “empathy” to the suffering victims.  .

“Nagkulang ba ako sa pag-unawa kung ano  ang kondisyon nila, kung ano ang agam-agam nila?,” the President asked.

In Tagalog, we call it “manhid” or taong walang paki-alam sa mundo.

I will not surprised if some people will do the same to the administration of incoming President Duterte. If they have what it takes to show their disgust.

After incoming President Duterte assured the Kapangpangan during the election campaign that he will ask for the release of former president and now re-elected Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from her hospital arrest while waiting for the court to expedite plunder case filed against her, Pampanga voted for the city mayor.

Now the ball is on Duterte’s court to make good his words.

I am not a Kapangpangan, but knowing many of my relatives who came from Makabebe and Mexico City in Pampanga, the moment you promise them something for what they believe as an injustice committed to their kababayan, they will not forget you.

Macapagal-Arroyo has been in hospital arrest since the early days of the Aquino administration.

On Vice President Jejomar Binay corruption cases, nothing has been definite yet as Mayor Duterte only promised the losing presidential candidate that the cases against him are not among the priorities of the Duterte administration.

Dapat kasi, sagutin muna ni Binay kung totoo o hindi ang ibinibintang sa kanya.

Now it can be told.

According to an insider from the Duterte camp, in one of the then President Macapagal-Arroyo’s visits to Davao City, one evening the president broke the protocol. Her Excellency rode with the mayor on his Big Bike from the Casino in Lanang to After Dark then at Sandawa at Ecoland without the Presidential Security Group knowing about it.

Only after they were notified through the radio that Mayor Duterte and his VIP passenger were about to reach the downtown area, that they were “naisahan ni mayor.”

Ganyan ho ang pagiging magkaibigan ng dalawa. Now can we blame the mayor if he wanted the detain former president from her hospital arrest?
