TIMESMAN: Small fish

FORMER Sen. Jinggoy Estrada is now free as a bird after posting a bail of P1.33 million on charges of plunder and graft. He is the second “big fish” implicated in the pork barrel scam

given provisional liberty by the Sandiganbayan after former Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile in 2015.

Another former senator implicated in the scam is Bong Revilla Jr. who has remained in jail on similar charges. However, many believe he will release soon as well. As in the words of Estrada, “If there is FPJ (Fernando Poe Jr.) and Erap (Jinggoy’s father, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada), there is also Bong and Jinggoy.”

According to Jinggoy, Revilla and his cases are the same as that of Enrile who was released for humanitarian (age) reason, and “Tsik Boy” (as Jinggoy known in the triumvirate of “Tsik Boy”, “Pogi”, and “Tanda”) said, “I don’t see any point that (Revilla) won’t be released as well.”

Kumpiyansa ka Bai, Revilla’s case may be the same as yours and Enrile, but there are considerations.

Enrile, aside from posting a bail bond, was released because he was already 91 at the time and sickly. You (Jinggoy) are only in your early 50s and able, but the anti-graft court granted your petition to post bail on insufficiency of evidence and humanitarian grounds, although it denied your motion to dismiss the case.

Revilla is also of your age, and the only complaint we heard from him while in detention was that his shoulders were aching and needed a massage.

But Revilla, despite his detention, continued to attack the Duterte administration and never shows remorse, unlike Estrada and Enrile who was never heard of saying bad words against this administration in more than two years in prison.

And the Sandiganbayan, despite its claim of being independent might not give the same favorable decision to Revilla because of his attitude.

But I am also confident that detained alleged mastermind of the P10-billion pork barrel scam, Janet Napoles, the Sandiganbayan will continue to deny her motion for bail as she is only a “small fish.” Aray!

Last week, a survey conducted by Spain based-University of Navarra’s IESE ranked Manila as 148th out of 180 cities most livable and “smartest” city in the world.

Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada immediately acknowledged the recognition with his wide smile seen on television as he promised that he will work harder to improve the lives of his constituents.

Right after the good news about Manila, a study conducted by Zipjet, an app-based laundry and dry-cleaning service based in three European capitals –Berlin, London, and Paris – notably ranked Manila more stressful than war-torn Damascus in Syria. Manila scored 8.92 points out of 10 in terms of stressful living: Damascus, where a civil war is taking place, scored 8.66.

I never saw the face of Mayor Estrada on television giving statements to the media on the latest survey.

I presume that the Mayor didn’t hear about the bad news. But if ever he knew it, he just kept quiet. He might ask what is there to react when only a laundry shop conducted the study!

Siguro, dapat magpa labada ka na dito,Erap.
