TIMESMAN| “Don’t vote for Duterte if …” – Sen. Cayetano

THE FIRST death anniversary of our good friend and neighbour Carmelito “Tatang” Magtoto was attended by family and friends with a dinner served at the Forest Park in Ma-a, the other day.

Lito died at 76 while on vacation in his residence in Pampanga in Manila on Jan. 20, 2015. He suffered a stroke while viewing a program on television.

Ewan ko, people who died on their sleep or while relaxing, like in the case of Lito, are lucky people as they never suffered and passed away peacefully. How I wish the same thing will happen to me when my time comes.

Lito’s widowed Josefina and children led in entertaining their guests and at the mass that also held at the family museleo (?) in the park.

May your soul rest in peace, kaibigan!

Presidential candidate Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte is supposed to be on my Diamond Year celebration on Jan. 9 at the Royal Mandaya Hotel if not for the fact that he, his partner Honeylette, and daughter Inday Sara were in Luzon making the round of provinces and cities for exposure to public and lay down his platform of government once elected.

My comadre, Evita Avancena, who happens to be an auntie of Honeylette revealed this to me even before Jan.9, a Saturday. She said she approached her niece to convince the Mayor to attend the party while they were in their house in Matina for the Noche Buena but to no avail. The Mayor and company will be in Metro Manila during the last three days of the week by that time and there after during the duration of the campaign period before the May 9, 2016 elections.

Anyway, although I sent him an invitation card together with his trusted executive assistant (soon to be the incoming “little president” in Malacanang) Christopher “Bong” Go, son of our good friend Maritess Tesoro Go, I said to myself that it is better that way that the Mayor escaped my party otherwise the attention my family, relatives and friends given me will be taken away with the present of Mayor Duterte that night. It will be a “disaster”.

I also believe that the city mayor will be on my party believing that Glen Escandor, president of Royal Mandaya Hotel and other Escandor business interests can easily convince his friend as they were that close to each other. Glen and family were touring the country that answered why he too missed my celebration.

Again, I would like to thank Glen for the big discount and delicious food as well as good reception his hotel personnel extended me, particularly pretty Eva Ces T. Gamalong, banquet events supervisor and special friend of UMBN Felix Maceda who sees to it that everything is in order for the four-hour reception that attended by more or less 200 persons. Hanggang ngayon hanged-over pa ako.

A statement of vice presidential aspirant Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte would be a disaster for the country if he is elected president only shows the weaknesses of the former leader of the Magdalo rebels that staged a rebellion against the Cory Aquino government but failed, to be gentleman in the playing field and not to ride on the popularity of Duterte.

“Yes a Duterte presidency will be a disaster for drug lords, criminals and corrupt public officials,” Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Duterte’s running mate said.

“The only people who are afraid of a Duterte leadership are those who benefit from corruption and unsolved criminality. Mayor Duterte already made it clear. If you don’t want a peaceful country and a corrupt free government, then don’t vote for him. If you want crimes and illegal drugs to thrive in our communities, then don’t support him,” Cayetano added.

Senate committee on members’ expenditures revealed that Trillanes IV has the highest reported expenses among the 24-member in the legislative body.

Ang ipinagtataka ko even when the former military officer turned politician while serving his term in jail, also topped the committee reports on the expenditures of our senators, while fellow senators as free as a bird that time he was behind bars, have less expenses of people’s money. Ay, naku!

Have a nice weekend!
