Tesda notes 90% passing rate on NC in Compostela Valley

NABUNTURAN, Compostela Valley (PIA) – Nine out of 10 Comvaleños who took the National Assessment and Certification of Competencies passed, according to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda)-Compostela Valley Office.

Guesting in the Ka-PIA-han sa Kahangian via Aksyon ComVal teleradyo, Mafel Joan Gamale of Tesda Comval revealed that out of 5,143 Comvaleños who applied for the assessment and certification of competencies from January to October 2017, some 4,622 passed and received National Certification on different competencies, or around 90% passing rate.

Gamale also disclosed that as of Oct. 2017, Tesda ComVal already recorded 78% rate on their employment accomplishment surpassing the national requirement of only 61%.

According to their data, 6,854 Comvaleños who took skills training from Tesda landed a job; for this year, Tesda ComVal has a target of 8,832 employment.

Gamale also added that some 15,109 Comvaleños graduated from the school and community based skills education.

She added that the school-based skills education came from the technical vocational institutions in the province.

Meanwhile, Gamale noted that the number of technical vocational schools in the province has decreased from 22, before Typhoon Pablo, to only 12 to date and will be later trimmed down to 10, as two institutions have not passed their regular compliance audit.

With the small number of institutions, Gamale encouraged investors to put up technical vocational schools in the province considering the needed requirement for National Certification for jobs abroad and the scholarship that Tesda has been giving. (PIA11, Michael Uy)
