Teacher wins ABCD women amateur bowling tourney

TEACHER Roxanne Mercado topped the women’s division in the bowling tournament organized by the Amateur Bowlers of the Community of Davao (ABCD) held at Dover Mega Lanes Bowling Center last Wednesday night.

The final result showed Mercado scored 224 pinfalls in the two-game individual duckpin bowling contest, garnering 110 and 114 in games one and two.

Mercado, a teacher of Magtuod Elementary School in Talomo District, bested first runner-up Agnes Eliguen, a stock clerk of Merco Quality Cakes, who scored 202 pinfalls, and Amie Perez, a registered nurse working at San Pedro Hospital, who scored 151.

Mercado received a champion’s medal and cash prize.

“During the game I was really nervous, but I told myself to just focus and enjoy the game,” she said. “I practice almost every day and saw my efforts paid off.”

She invites her fellow teachers to play bowling as a way of relieving stress.

Mercado can’t play anymore in the coming Individual Amateur Bowling tournaments as she will be playing in the battle of champions.

All players were awarded certificates of participation by the ABCD, the tournament’s organizer.

“Tournaments like this will be held monthly and open to all beginners and occasional players who want to have fun in a friendly competition,” said Policarpo Villamor, ABCD co-organizer. “Coaching for beginners will be given for free to interested individuals.”

ABCD will also organize tournaments for kids, high school and college students’ categories and various groups.

“Inter-schools, inter-company and inter-government agency bowling tournament will be arranged soon.” Villamor added.

Servando Marfe, Jr., ABCD co-organizer, announced that the next Individual Bowling Tournament for amateur bowlers will be on July 25, Wednesday.

Registration of players will be at 6 p.m. while the tournament starts at 7 p.m.
