Taxi driver killed in dawn hold-up

A TAXICAB driver died after he was stabbed by unidentified perpetrator/s along ZRU road, Barangay Mandug, Buhangin District around 1:30 a. m. yesterday.

Sr. Insp. Maria Teresita Gaspan, the spokesperson of Davao City Police Office identified the victim as Erlindo Moreno Jr., driver for Mister Taxi and a resident of Father Selga Street.

According to the report, the victim sustained a stab wound on the right portion of his neck. Medical personnel arrived at the scene but could no longer save him.

Police are looking into robbery as the possible motive of the killing.

The tracker team of Buhangin Police Precinct is now conducting follow-up and hot pursuit operation for the possible arrest of the suspect.

The last time a taxi driver was killed in a robbery was in 2015.

Rommel S. Parreno, 36, who drove Xanna Issa taxicab with body number 630, and resident of Matina Pangi, was found lifeless beside his unit in Sapphire Street, Matina. The victim managed to crawl outside to ask for help from one of the residents but no one came out.

Parreno succumbed to three stab wounds on his neck when he was found by 18-year-old student, Ivann Alexa C. Lansin, resident of the said place.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives found a pair of sandals, a bull cap and medicines allegedly left behind by the suspect.
