Tagum City, kin raise P300K for arrest of Denora’s killers

Investigators in the killing of community newspaper publisher Dennis Denora have started analyzing the closed circuit television footage (CCTV) of the incident that took place last week in Panabo City.

The Task Force Denora, the group tasked to investigate the crime, said that technical experts of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group have been enhancing the footage so that those behind the crime could be identified.

The city government and the friends of Denora have dangled a P300,000 reward money for the identities of the suspects and their eventual arrest.

Sr. Supt. Alan Manibog, Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office director and co-chair of the Task Force Denora, said the task force, headed by Prosecutor Noel Padilla-Palma, has been looking at all angles in relation to the crime.

Manibog, however, refused to reveal the initial result of the investigation in order not to hamper it.
“We have already been looking for some person of interest,” he said.

Early this week, Rep. Antonio R. Floirendo Jr. of the First District of Davao del Norte called on the authorities to run after those who killed Denora.

“Justice should be served at all cost for Dennis Denora, and press freedom must not be threatened by perils poised by persons who want to destabilized public safety,” said Floirendo in a statement released Sunday night.

Saying he had known the victim for 30 years. Floirendo said: I can vouch for decency, integrity and strong commitment to seek the journalistic truth.”

Denouncing the murder of the newspaperman, Floirendo added that the killing “underscores the evil motive of certain individuals, whether public or private, who were hurt by his exposes.” “For this reason, the killers behind the ambush must promptly be arrested and the brains behind the crime be identified,” he said.

Motorcycle-riding killers waylaid Denora and his driver in Panabo City Thursday, resulting in his immediate death while the driver was also injured.

Investigators have yet to come up with the motive of the murder as well as the identities of those behind it. With reports from CQF
