SWAT training for cops

FORTY personnel of Davao City Police Office (DCPO) began their 15-day Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) advance course during the opening ceremony held at the headquarters parade grounds on June 29.

Davao City Police Office director Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum said the project is in line with the implementation of Oplan Iron City.

Tagum said the purpose is to ensure public safety and security against the increasing threat of terrorism, organized criminals, and other lawless elements who will attempt to destroy peace in the city.

The local government has allocated P3 million budget for the training program.

The Participants of the training will be equipped with full uniform, SIG Sauer M4 rifle, bullet vest including the procurement of SWAT van.

In a separate interview, Sr. Insp. Maria Theresita Gaspan, spokesperson of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said in an interview that the 40 personnel came from the 12 police precincts in the city.

Gaspan said after the 15 days training they will be divided into five teams that will be assigned into the five sectors in the city. “If there is a report that there is a bomb in a certain area they will immediately respond,” she said.
