Suspected swindler tries to kill self after arrest

A WOMAN who allegedly name-dropped Mayor Sara Duterte in her modus operandi tried to kill herself inside the police station where she was detained following her arrest on Thursday.

The suspected loan swindler was identified as Elsie Concon Tima, 38, married, unemployed and resident of Barangay Tagakpan, Tugbok District.

Toril police operatives arrested Tima in Tugbok at about 10 a.m. on Thursday after she was complained to have deceived several residents in Toril District.

Based on the complaint, Tima arrived in Sto. Niño, Gravahan, Barangay Crossing Bayabas in Toril District around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

She introduced herself as a City Hall employee assigned as officer-in-charge in giving loan sponsored by the local government under Mayor Sara Duterte.

She asked the victims to fill up bank documents and submit their individual identification card. She also required them to each pay P300 so they could immediately avail of the loan.

Some of the victims gave the money that day, expecting to avail of the promised loan.

When they went to the Barangay Hall of Crossing Bayabas where the supposed loan would be released, they found that there was no such transaction taking place.

They also learned that Tima was not a City Hall employee so they sought police assistance leading to the arrest of the suspect on Thursday morning in Tugbok.

While at the police station, the suspect asked permission to urinate.

As she was guided in going to the comfort room, Tima suddenly ran towards the kitchen.

She allegedly grabbed a knife and deliberately stabbed herself. She sustained injury on her abdomen.

Responding 911 team treated the suspect as she was rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for further medical treatment.

Several other scam victims arrived and lodged their individual complaint against the suspect.
