Suspect not 911 worker

THE TOP official of Central 911 said the driver who allegedly killed a fisherman in Astorga, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur on Wednesday is not part of their workforce.

Emmanuel Jaldon, chief of Central 911, said yesterday in a statement that Manolito Demasugid was neither a driver nor an operative of Central 911. He said the suspect was a police mobile patrol driver.

“We only directly handle emergency medical technicians, rescue technicians, fire auxiliary firemen and K9 handlers. We only facilitate their employment records. They are operationally under police,” Jaldon said.

At present, authorities are still on hot pursuit operation against the suspect.

Sr. Insp. Arnold Absin, chief of Sta. Cruz Municipal Police Station, said Demasugid immediately fled to unknown direction after fatally shooting victim Geronimo Montiso, a fisherman and resident of Baybay, Astorga.

In the spot report of Sta. Cruz Municipal Police Station, the incident happened when the two engaged in a heated argument on Wednesday morning. It was the victim who first punched the suspect. This reportedly made the suspect to go home and get his gun. He returned and shot the victim.

The Davao City Police Office is also investigating the case.
