SK federation spreads word on Oplan Tambay campaign

The Sangguniang Kabataan is doing its part to spread awareness of the anti-loitering campaign of the Duterte administration dubbed “Oplan Tambay,” along with the local ordinance imposing a curfew on minors.

“We already gave instructions to every SK chairman in the city to advise the youth to go home early,” Councilor Jafar Usman Marohomsalic, the youth representative to the City Council, said during the iSpeak forum yesterday.

He said the minors should be home before 10 p.m. if they have no reasons to be out that late in the evening.

Davao City has a present ordinance imposing a curfew on unescorted minors from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Those who are rescued by the police will be turned over to their parents or, if not possible, to the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

Earlier, President Duterte ordered the PNP to accost and reprimand those who loiter around the barangays. He took particular note of those who stay in the streets half-naked and drinking liquor.

However, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines said the police have no cause to arrest the loiterers since the anti-vagrancy law has already been repealed. But President Duterte insisted that his order to the PNP stays unless the Supreme Court will rule that it’s illegal.
