SHOWTIME’S FUNNY ONES Davao comedy trio fails to win title

THE DAVAOEÑO comedy trio No Direction made the audience and judges laugh with their performance on the grand finals of It’s Showtime’s The Funny One.

But the group – composed of Steve Suabe, Sadam, and Bangkay – failed to win the title. The group emerged as the third-runner up in the five-act competition on ABS-CBN’s noontime show. As fourth placer, the group took home P75,000.

No Direction’ slapstick act included dubbing and dance numbers.

RYAN Rems rules the competition with his brand of non-sequitur humor and straight-faced delivery.

Judge and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista praised the group’s use of a situation in their act.

Director Frasco Mortiz, meanwhile, said there was not a dull moment in the group’s performance.

Rocker-comedian Ryan Rems Sarita, already a fan favorite since the start of the competition, was named the first-ever grand champion of the comedian talent search. The Novaliches guy who popularized Pepe Smith’s “Rock and Roll to the World” during the competition, won P1 million cash.

Ryan Rems, who has made noise on social media for his brand of non-sequitur humor and straight-faced delivery, had the audience in stitches with his newest set of jokes.

The crowd cheered for Sarita even while he was still entering the stage.

“Maraming salamat sa mga sumubaybay sa alamat, masasaksihan niyo na ang huling yugto,” he told the crowd before he started his performance.

Ryan Rems said his win was just accidental.

The comedian said he went to ABS-CBN to apply as writer “Nag-apply ako dito bilang writer, sabi nila walang vacancy for writer, ‘so nagstand-up comedy ka pala, may auditions kami coming soon,’” he said.
