Shootout kills 2 cops who were targets of drug bust

TWO police officers were killed in a shootout with authorities during a buy-bust operation at Purok 8, Barangay Ising, Carmen, Davao del Norte on Monday noon.

Chief Insp. Andrea Dela Cerna, spokesperson of Police Regional Office XI, identified the two killed as SPO2 Norberto G. Amador, resident Gamao Subdivision, Purok 6, San Francisco, Panabo City; and PO2 Noe T. Gementiza, an active member of the PNP and resident of Nicevelle subdivision, Cagangohan, Panabo City.

Amador was already declared Awol prior to the bust.

The operation was conducted by joint personnel of Provincial Intelligence Board (PIB), Carmen Municipal Police Station and Provincial Intelligence Team.

Dela Cerna said the suspects were considered as high value targets by the intelligence unit of the PNP.

According to the report, Amador handed over the shabu in exchange for P1,000 marked money. The suspect sensed that he was dealing with an undercover, prompting him to draw and fire his pistol.

Gemenetiza also pulled out his gun and fired at the covert operatives. But they fired back and hit the two multiple times in the different parts of their bodies. Both men died on the spot.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered  four sachets of suspected shabu; one Caspin .45 caliber pistol; Colt M1911A1 .45 caliber pistol; cartridges and the P1,000 marked money.

The cadavers of the suspects were brought to Rivera Funeral Homes in Barangay Sto Niño, Carmen, Davao del Norte.
