Security equipment purchase to be completed before August

THE CITY government is targeting the procurement of security equipment to be completed before the month of August.

Raul Nadela Jr., city mayor’s chief-of-staff, said in an interview that the city intends to acquire the security equipment before the Kadayawan celebration.

Nadela said they already identified the amounts needed for the security equipment needed to be purchased, which will soon be installed in the different areas of the city.

He said the City Budget Office and the Local Finance Committee are preparing for the budget proposal on Supplemental Budget No. 2 to be submitted to the Sangguniang Panglungsod.

“After we get the approval, then the procurement process will commence because these have to undergo all the biddings and all the formalities,” Nadela added.

Previously, Councilor Nilo Abellera told reporters that there is already a budget allocated for the walk-through scanner and x-ray baggage scanners for the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal, including the security checkpoints in Sirawan in Toril, Lacson in Calinan and Lasang in Bunawan.

The original proposal was only two for each of the security scanners but Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio added three more to make it five.

These scanners were part of the P95 million security equipment proposals of the Public Security and Safety Command Center (PSSCC) chief Benito De Leon to the city mayor.

Meanwhile, Nadela Jr. added that, “the city might augment this amount later this year or next year at the annual budget as this is still not enough considering the needs of the city given the 182 barangays all over”.

“We are just working on what we have right now as these are procurements that is brought about by the recent events in the city,” he said.
