SCENE CITY| YMCA Davao promises another banner year

PROMISING another banner year of projects and youth-oriented activities, the officers and directors of Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Davao led by Fernando “Boie” S. Ongkingco Jr., head of the First Engineering District in Davao City of the Department of Public Works and Highways, were sworn in by not just one but five inducting officers in solemn rites at the Marco Polo Davao last month.



The 45th annual installation ceremonies were presided by Rep. Karlo Alexei B. Nograles as Chief Inducting Officer; Gregorio R. Magnaye,  Past president of YMCA Davao; Atty. Antonio B. Partoza Jr., another YMCA Davao President; Paciencio M. Rosalem Jr., Past Regional Director of Y’s Men Philippine Region; and Engr. Geoffrey L. Rodriguez, Past President of Y’s Men Club of Metro Davao.


REP. Karlo Alexei B. Nograles lauds Disrict Engineer Fernando S. Ongkingco Jr. and other officers of YMCA Davao for their passion to push the vision and missions of the 174-year old world wide Christ- Centered organization for the development of youth leaders.

The other officers inducted were Jose B. Custodio, First Vice President; Atty. Leoncio “Nonoy” P. Villa-Abrille, Second Vice President; Russel U. Barrizo, Corporate Secretary; Ma. Lita A. Montalban, Assistant Corporate Secretary; Henry B. Braceros, Treasurer; Manuel S. Tagud, Assistant Treasurer; Atty. Ricardo V. Villegas, Auditor; Antonio M. Ajero, Public Relations Officer; and Vicente R. Banes Jr., Business Manager. Directors are Engr. Mariano R. Alquiza, Engr. Isagani G. Javier and Dr. Julius dela Victoria; while Youth Directors are Jekris-Shalom D. Mendoza and Melody Ann V. Rico.

YMCA Davao was officially established in 1971.

YMCA leaders lauded

Karlo Nograles was also the Guest Speaker of the occasion. He was introduced by DPWH Regional Director Marnie Alquiza.

In his speech, Congressman Nograles praised the dedication and passion of Ongkingco and other leaders and volunteers of YMCA Davao in pushing the vision and missions of the world-renowned association.

“I salute YMCA Davao for your leadership in global youth empowerment,” the young solon said, adding “your work is your contribution to our future and fulfilment of your individual purpose to be catalysts of changing our world for the better.”

Four immediate past officers of the association were also bestowed by President Ongkingco certificates of recognition for their long and dedicated service to the youth and the community through YMCA Davao. They were Engr. Jose N. Valenzuela Jr., Welehito N. Pepito, Paciencio M. Rosalem Jr. and Reynaldo B. Sazon.

Ongkingco also swore in eight new life corporate members of the association. They are Dr.Jocelyn B. Catampo, Edison B. Braceros, Engr. Dwight Vincent J. Fernandez, Engr. Joselito M. Jamito, Kirk Anthon N. Limbo, Engr. Claudio A. Natividad, Ms Lourdes M. Mission and Rey C. Urbiztondo.
