SCENE CITY| Pink Run joins the world’s observance of Breast Cancer Month

WITH the Philippines having the second highest incidence of breast cancer in Asia, advocates for support of people with breast cancer organized a Fun Run dubbed as “Pink Run” on Sunday, October 24, 2016.

Wearing “singlets” and pink T-shirts, early participants joined the Zumba warm up at the SM Lanang parking area in front of the mall and competed in the 1K, 5K and 10K race.

Chairperson for the activity Dr. Luz “Meng” Acosta and her committee members provided unlimited Congee, boiled eggs, bottled water and bananas donated by sponsors.

Dr. Ismael Mahani was all over the place checking that the participants registered, had their race bibs and all the details in the program were followed. Cooperation was evident as members of the Davao Medical Society worked with the organizers, with support from the Philippine College of Surgeons, Southern Mindanao Chapter and the Soroptimist International of Davao, who donated the medals for the winners, and other related branches of the medical field who joined the Pink Run.

In the afternoon, a Pink Lay Forum took place at the NCCC Mall, where services for breast cancer diagnosis was provided free with Biopsy, X-Ray and other medical examinations were offered to patients and women who availed of the services. Also giving their support was the Philippine College of Radiology-Southern Mindanao Chapter.
