SCENE CITY| ICHEF bags 12 Medals in Davao Culinary Cup 2017

THEY WERE too positive to be doubtful, too optimistic to be fearful, and too determined to be defeated. The students from the Institute of International Culinary and Hospitality Entrepreneurship (ICHEF) were all set to bag awards as they competed in one of the biggest culinary competitions in Mindanao — the Davao Culinary Cup 2017 held at the SM Lanang Activity Center on August 29 to 31, 2017.

Organized by the Philippine Culinary Cup, the Davao Culinary Cup is an internationally recognized platform that aims to promote the Filipino culinary professionals to the rest of the world with the Country’s Top Chefs and Culinary Masters as judges.

 ICHEF College and Senior High School students have always joined the Culinary Competition. Using their creativity and culinary skills they have mastered from ICHEF, the students were able to bring home 12 medals, two silvers and ten bronzes for different categories. The silver medalists were Marey Estember,  – 3rd Year, for Creative Breakfast Challenge; Apple Arcala -, Madelyn Gonzales, Aaron Troy Gaudicos and Chef Rene John Custodio – National Master Trainer/ICHEF Lead Chef for Dream Team Challenge. The bronze medalists were John Gonzales – for Creative Breakfast Challenge; Janssen Dale Calo, Robert Deanon, Christopher Abella, Jordan Setoza, Jan Carlo Polinar, and Febemar Rodrigo for Young Chefs Team Challenge; Michael John Bajenting, Karl Initan, and Robert Paul Amante for Filipino Cuisine Challenge; Prince Cavin Balladares for Pasta – Heat 1; Robin Ramos for Pasta – Heat 2; Jessa Lopez, and Mickee Gallera  for Local Fish or Seafood – Heat 1; and Jericho Barcibal for Local Fish or Seafood – Heat 2. Classmates, trainers, faculty and staff headed by the Vice President for Education Development, Ms. Nicole Hao-Bian were also present to give their participating teams support.

 The Joji Ilagan College of Business and Tourism students also excelled as they were the WOFEX official event ushers, assistants and marshals. WOFEX (World Food Expo) is the ultimate food show in the Philippines. It offers more than just the exhibition because it brings in the trade visitors into the show.
