SCENE CITY| Galing Mason Award 2015 goes to a Davaoeño

CEMENT manufacturer Holcim Philippines hails the Grand Champion of the 2015 Holcim Galing Mason Awards from Davao.

Ricky Pasco, a 39-year old construction worker of the Makati Development Corporation (Davao) from Tagum, Davao del Norte is this year’s Grand Champion of the Holcim Galing Mason Award.

The first-time participant bested 19 other national finalists from various parts of the Philippines including four women masons.

Pasco started working when he was 18 years old. He acknowledges that each mason would have his own technique or approach to work. For his part, he values smooth interpersonal relationship which he has maintained in all the projects he has been involved in.

He intendts to use portions of his cash prize amounting to PhP 175,000.00 for the tuition of his children, Ricyl, 13 and Ricky, Jr., 9 years old.

Pasco sees this award as a steppping stone to further hone his craft. He is hopeful that it will open more opportunities for him so he can fulfill his dreams for a better life for his wife, Nida.

Pasco, along with fellow Davaoenos Edwin Ninal (3rd Place winner) and Wenser Maniligoy – 9th Place winner) are among the Top 20 national finalists who went to Javier, Leyte for the masonry skills competition where they spent three days building the perimeter fence for Holcim Philippines’ Housing Project in partnership with the local government.

In his special message, Holcim Philippines, Inc. CEO Eduardo A. Sahagun shared the vision of the flagship corporate social responsibility program. “The Galing Mason Program is a testament to our commitment to systainability. Equiping masions with right skills os just the first step towards providing them with a more sustainable form of livelihood.”

ATTY. FELY SANTOS TURNS 95

Former Davao City Councilor and Assemblywoman Atty. Felicidad Santos celebrated her 95th birthday at her home along Tulip Drive, Juna Subdivision in Davao City. She was the founding president of the Soroptimist International of Davao in 1966 and is a life member of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines National Council.
