IT WAS in the early 70s when we heard about martial arts getting popular in the movies featuring the famed Bruce Lee and David Carradine. Gyms were starting to get busy teaching Judo and other forms of self-defense and children would be seen doing Karate moves. When we were in college, Judo was offered as a Physical Education subject. And the comedy–suspense action star Jackie Chan entertained us no end.

This time, we hear about another variation of martial arts. Guesting in our Tuesday Forum at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, we learned about the Black Thunder Palm Martial-Arts from its founder Filipino Kung-fu Master Orlando Bautista.

He started training in Martial arts at the age of five. Master Orlando was trained by Sifu Edgardo Bautista, his father. Sifu Edgardo was trained in Hong Kong under Black Dragon Kung-Fu and Wing Chun Kuen.

Black Thunder Palm Martial-arts (BTPMA) is an art of Filipino Kung-Fu whose primary purpose is to teach “high quality fighting style but easy to learn,” according to Kung-Fu master Orlando Baustista, who adds, “practical use for real fighting scenario, this is just like any other martial arts, focused on self-discipline, character development and physical fitness.”
