Scene city | 2018 is the Year of the Earth Dog

WE JUST learned from Vice Mayor Bernard Al-Ag that Davao City has the largest Chinatown in terms of area in the Philippines, and that makes us celebrate the Chinese New Year together with those in other places around the world.

The Filipino-Chinese Community and the local government held the celebration for the Chinese New Year countdown 2018 starting with a Eucharistic Celebration at the San Pedro Cathedral at 5:30 p.m.

A program at the Rizal Park was well attended by the heads of every department of the LGU. City Administrator Zulaika Lopez welcomed everyone who greeted the New Year. On hand to greet guests were Susabel Reta, Generose Tecson, Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum, members of the diplomatic corps and the department heads.

The Philippine Academy of Sajta performed the traditional offering ritual followed by the Lion Dance by the Davao Chong Hua High School students.

Councilor Mabel S. Acosta read the welcome remarks of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, while Steve Alquiza of DCCDC gave a message for the occasion.

Other performers for the countdown were Davao Christian High School, Colegio de San Ignacio, Music Authority Band, Davao Volunteer Fire Brigade, Kristine Karla Haw.
