San Miguel celebrates 125th year

SAN MIGUEL Corporation which is the maker of one of the world’s most admired beer, San Miguel Pale Pilsen celebrated its 125 years on September 29, 2015.

San Miguel Pale Pilsen as its first beer has been regarded as the round table companion in celebrating important life events and every toast-worthy experience.

In celebration of this milestone, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) unveiled San Miguel Brewery Inc.’s historical marker at the podium lobby driveway of San Miguel Head Office Complex in Mandaluyong City. NHCP Chairperson Maria Serena I. Diokno led the unveiling ceremonies with San Miguel Corporation President Ramon S. Ang and SMB Inc. President Roberto N. Huang. The marker immortalizes San Miguel’s legacy and contribution to Philippine history.

The Philippine Postal Corporation has also launched the San Miguel Pale Pilsen commemorative stamps in recognition of the brand’s and company’s 125 years of delighting not only Filipinos but customers worldwide. PhilPost Board of Director Chairman Cesar N. Sarino turned over the stamps to San Miguel Corporation President and COO Ramon Ang and San Miguel Brewery Inc. President Roberto Huang. The stamps’ design features San Miguel’s first brewery in 1890 located in Manila where Malacanang Palace’s New Executive Building now stands, and the Pale Pilsen’s 125 Years of Beer Stories anniversary logo.

The San Miguel stamp will be recognized by the Universal Postal Union and will soon be available in at least 190 countries.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, on the other hand, minted a commemorative medal for San Miguel which was officially handed over by BSP Minting and Refinery Operations Department (MROD) to Mr. Ang and Mr. Huang. As a tribute, San Miguel Pale Pilsen’s 125 years logo was engraved on the obverse, and the iconic amber stein Pale Pilsen bottle on the reverse side. Only a thousand of these coins have been produced by BSP.

From a modest brewery in 1890, San Miguel Corporation has grown to be one of the most diversified conglomerates – now engaging in food, infrastructure, oil, power and real estate.
