Scene City | ROYECA Dance and Arts Centre

Thrilled and excited spectators were dazzled with the classic movie throwback of Star Wars, ET, Batman, Spiderman, Avengers, Harry Potter and other retro classic music as the Royeca Dance and Arts Centre showcased “Retro Art Wave” Summer Workshop 2018 at the Abreeza Ayala Mall Atrium on May 28, 2018. This time, the Davao community turned out to enjoy a much-needed creative Summer Season.

The RODAC show had a lineup of different dances, from devotional, emotional, sensational. Numbers featured were Classical Ballet, Urban Hip Hop, Broadway Jazz, Bollywood, Contemporary, Latin, Kizomba, Spanish, Lyrical and Collaborative Dance from ages three to 45 years old.  It was a high voltage of energy and excitement as participants showed their passion for dancing.

Urban Hip Hop Dance Evolution was inspired by a social issue about movement for peace, love and unity. The MG Stiletto Strength ladies showcased sizzling dances to empower women to develop endurance, patience, confidence and character. Sophisticated Spanish Dances such as Carmen and Habanera were performed by Pia Romo and Clinton. And a solo variation from the Classical Ballet, The Sleeping Beauty performed by Therese — for RODAC’s November 24 Full Length Gala Show.

The program was conceptualized and directed by Ms. MG Royeca supported by RODAC’s  newly formed Creative Team and Dance Faculty members, Mr. Mac Macapendeg as the Costume Designer and Stylist / Writing and Fashion Specialist;  Ms. Ninna as the Music and Media Director; Ms. Hermie Etis as Rodac’s Administrator, Mr. Gats Lopez, Mr. Kyle Verano and Ms. Candi Angel for Urban Hip Hop Mentor, Ms. Hyacinth Jan Yanson and Ms. MG Royeca for Stiletto Strength, Klowy Ulo, Abby Sta. Maria and Jhorie Mae Janea for Classical Ballet with guest choreographers / dancers Clinton Dignos, Daime Ponce, Mark Deles and above all, soulfully inspired by the Mother Director herself, Mrs. Girlie Royeca.

The celebration was all about the joy of dancing not just as an art form but also as a heart form.  According to Artistic Director Ms. MG Royeca, “It is not how much you do it, but how you do it… that makes life beautiful because it is all about involvement.”

The RODAC show was also specially participated in by Fusion Davao, the Champion of Hip Hop International which will be presenting the Philippines in Arizona USA on August 2018.
