Rody: I cannot help Felonia

MAYOR Rodrigo R. Duterte has distanced himself from embattled Sr. Supt. Leonardo Felonia who was accused of killing businessman Richard Lim King about a year ago.

“I cannot be of help to anybody,” Duterte told reporters yesterday at the Grand Menseng Hotel. “Colonel Felonia must answer… as I said, lahat ng police na nagtatrabaho will have my protection.”

Duterte said he would only help policemen who have killed anyone only if it is in the performance of duty.

“I don’t mind you killing a dozen persons every day, as long as it’s duty connected, and in the performance of duty, you will have my help. And that goes for everybody.”

This developed as the Regional Trial Court set the hearing of the case against Felonia on Thursday as the court is set to discuss the motion of Felonia’s lawyer, Caesar Europa, to have him transferred to Camp Crame, Manila.

Felonia filed a motion for the transfer after the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) refused to accept him because he is considered as high risk and the agency has no capability to take custody of the accused.

He anchored his motion on his claim that he has been receiving death threats.

The accused has been confined at Southern Philippines Medical Center after Davao City Police director Vicente Danao approved his request.

Felonia has also asked the Supreme Court to transfer the venue of the trial to Manila due to threats on his life.

He was dragged into the case after the self-confessed gunman, Paul Dave Molina Labang, and brothers Rommel and Rodel dela Cerna, who also claimed they participated in the crime, tagged him as the one who hired them to kill King.
