TROOPS recovered a rifle and explosive materials while on combat operation in Barangay White Kulaman, Kitaotao, Bukidnon on Friday evening.

Capt. Alberto Caber, information officer of Eastern Mindanao Command, said the combined elements of the 8th Infantry Battalion and the Public Safety Company of the PNP were on their third day of operation against the New People’s Army when they recovered the materials aroudn 6 p.m.

They recovered one M16 rifle; six unexploded improvised explosive devices; 60 pieces blasting caps; 900 meters of detonating cord; eight pieces of IED molders; half kilo of sulfur powder; one lower receiver of cal .45 pistol; subversive documents and an NPA flag .

It can be recalled that the combined AFP-PNP forces served the search warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court of Misamis Oriental following an affidavit of complaint of local residents about the alleged abuses, recruitment by their “rebel-influenced” neighbors.

Some of the IEDs that were recovered were found planted along the populated area of the said barangay.

Three days ago, rebels attempted to disrupt the law enforcement operations and tried to enter the barangay when they clashed with security elements of the 8th Infantry Battalion, the army report claimed.

Lt. Col. Lennon Babilonia, 8th Infantry Battalion commander, said the NPAs are responsible in “militarizing” the communities as evidenced by the recovered items.

“We call upon the NPA and their leaders to stop arming the barangay and quit placing landmines and IEDs within the communities,” Babilonia said.
