PSSCC trains 231 ‘forest rangers’

THE PUBLIC Safety Command Center (PSSCC) yesterday said it will train the 231 Bantay Bukid members, although they will still sit down with the local government on the program’s details particularly the role and responsibilities of each one.

“In how they are handled or reporting protocols to monitor well the status of the sanctuary,” said PSSCC Chief Ret. Gen. Benito De Leon in an interview yesterday

De Leon said the matter was discussed already together with Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

“But we still have to wait for the formal document and guidelines although we have already received guidance on the effect but we just properly finalize what are those protocols,” he added.

He also said the training will focus more on the security aspect and protection of the habitat of the Philippine Eagle.

“One of the groups was formed to give slightly loose monitoring, and one group was created which is the Bantay bukid,” he added.

The Bantay- bukid group will monitor the Philippine Eagles sanctuary in the areas of Baguio, Marilog and Calinan district in the city.

“Maybe they ask for assistance to the city government and as much as they have common interest to protect the eagles they will also be hired so that the city government can pay them out,”he further said.

PSSCC is tasked to monitor the efficiency of the program.

The PSSC Chief also said they will cooperate with the other government offices like City Environmental and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) to make sure the eagle habitat is protected.
