PSSCC to be formalized

THE HEAD of the public safety committee at the city council said that the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) could be a permanent office if the city supports the move.

Councilor Ma. Belen Acosta, who chairs the public safety and security committee at the Sangguniang Panlungsod, said that City Hall was already considering forming the PSSCC as a regular department.

The PSSCC is currently an attached agency under the City Mayor’s Office.

Benito de Leon, who heads the PSSCC, submitted a proposal to Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in a letter dated Sept. 26 on the revision of the agency’s organizational chart.

This also includes details on the office’s structure as well as possible plantilla positions that could be created from the reorganization.

“If and when City Hall will forward it to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, we will work on it,” Acosta said.

According to the councilor, the item could be discussed jointly by the committees on rules, finance, public safety and security, and government appointments and reorganizations.

“If the PSSCC will become a department, there will be a semblance of permanence for the department,” Acosta said.

This way, if a new Mayor gets elected, the office will stay even if there is a change in administration after the PSSCC becomes institutionalized.

The PSSCC is in charge of monitoring the hundreds of CCTV cameras around the city, alongside the city’s Central 911 system.

The PSSCC also assists the Task Force Davao and the Davao City Police Office in providing intelligence during operations.
