PRRD accepts Polong resignation

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte yesterday accepted the resignation of his son Paolo “Polong” Duterte as the city vice mayor.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the announcement 11 days after Polong made a tearful exit at a special session on Christmas Day.

The city government is currently waiting words from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on who will replace Polong as the city’s second highest ranking elected official.

The DILG has yet to issue a certification on the ranking of the councilors that will determine who will assumed the vacated post.

If the ranking is based on all candidates, the contenders are Councilors Bernard Al-ag (3rd District), Marissa Salvador-Abella (2nd District), and Ma. Cherry Bonguyan (2nd District).

If the choices would be based on the highest ranking per district, it would be a choice among Al-ag, Abella, and first district Councilor Ma. Belen Acosta.

Al-ag, who is acting as the vice mayor, said the city council will hold necessary elections to adjust the committee leaderships on the next regular session next week.

In an interview, DILG city director Vicky Sarcena said they will make the formal pronouncements once they receive a copy of the official documents.
