President Duterte graces Navy anniversary today

THE BRP-Davao del Sur (LD602) of the Philippine Navy will be commissioned today in line with its 119th founding anniversary commemoration at Sasa wharf.

President Rodrigo Duterte is the expected guest of honor of the commissioning of the BRP Davao del Sur today.

Lt. James Reyes, spokesperson of Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM), said after the ceremony there will be a capability demonstration involving three multi-attack craft of the Philippine Navy including the Agusta Navy helicopter.

“Our Agusta has the capability to feed (data and video) to the ship even at night,” he said.

The BRP Davao del Sur is the second and last ship of her class of the Philippine landing platform docks.It is the second ship to be named after Davao del Sur.

“It is also transport vessel which has the capacity to in-house three helicopters, 500 personnel with amenities and two ships,” he added.

BRP-Davao del Sur has also two landing crafts, two Navy ships that have the capability to transport vehicles.

In connection with the celebration of 119th Philippine Navy anniversary today, the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (FF15) and BRP Davao del Sur (LD602) will be open to the public for a quick tour on June 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
