Policeman believed to be killed by NPA rebels

A MEMBER of the Regional Public Safety Battalion was gunned downed by four unidenitifed perpetrators in Barangay Kingking, Pantukan at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Chief Insp. Gilbert Papa, commander of Pantukan Police Station, identified the victim as PO1 Brian R. Relampagos, who was assigned in Barangay Tambongon in Pantukan.

Investigation showed that the victim and his female companion was on board a motorcycle going outside from a resort when the four perpetrators shot him from behind.

They fled with the service firearm and motorcycle of the policeman, who succumbed to two gunshot wounds on the head.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered two shells from a .45 caliber firearm.

According to Papa , they are still investigating the motive of the murder.

“But it’s likely that this was the handiwork of the NPA because his gun was stolen after the killing,” he said.

In an interview, Sr.Supt. Ignatius Ferro, director of Compostela Valley Provincial Police Office, said they are considering his lady companion as a person of interest.

“Unfortunately, it might not have been a simple meetup, but it seems it was a sparrow operation,” he said.

Ferro said the NPA is implementing Oplan Jupiter, which targets police officers and soldiers for liquidation.

He directed his men to be extra cautious in dealing with people they don’t know.
