Police secure Torotot fest

AT LEAST 250 personnel will be deployed today to provide security for the Torotot Festival in Rizal Park, and some areas in the city.

Chief Insp. Milgrace C. Driz, spokesperson of Davao City Police Office, said the personnel will come from the City Public Safety Company and Regional Public Safety Battalion.

“Also included is the maximum deployment of mobile units and bike patrols,” she said. “We will provide covert and overt security.”

The public is discouraged from carrying backpacks, bringing of liquor and other alcoholic drinks, as well as bladed weapons, during the Torotot Festival.

“Cigarettes are also prohibited during the event,”She said.

The parade will start from 4 p.m.  and will run until 6 p.m. at PLDT Ponciano Street passing through Palma Gil Street, Pelayo and proceeding to San Pedro for the program proper at 6 p.m. at Rizal Park.

The Torotot Festival was created in line with city’s firecracker and pyrotechnic ban.

It was first held during the city’s 2014 New Year’s Eve celebration at the Freedom Park along Roxas Avenue from 1 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2013 to 1 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2014.
