Police inspector charged for firing gun in altercation

A POLICE officer is facing four criminal charges for allegedly firing his gun and threatening to kill a man during a traffic altercation in Central Park, Bangkal, Barangay Talomo Proper at 1:45 p.m. Monday.

 Chief Insp.  Ronald Lao, the precinct commander of Talomo police, identified the suspect as Christian Antonio Duterte Garcia, said to be assigned at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in General Santos City.

 Lao said charges of grave threat, physical injury, alarm scandal and illegal discharge of firearm were filed yesterday through inquest procedure.

 The police station commander said Garcia allegedly manhandled the victim, identified as Honesto Ranes Cabacungan III, 35, single, and native of New Bulatucan, Makilala.

 The misunderstanding sparked due to a traffic misunderstanding.

 Both Garcia and Cabacungan were reportedly driving their respective vehicles in Bangkal.

 In front of Junex Restaurant, Cabacungan allegedly almost hit the vehicle driven by Garcia.

 Garcia allegedly scolded the driver. This sparked the altercation that resulted to a fistfight.

 The police officer allegedly got a firearm and fired it. He reportedly threatened Cabacungan.

 Garcia was then arrested.

 At the police precinct, the arrested police officer complained of chest pain, and was brought to Davao Sanitarium.

 Police did not recover the firearm.
