POLICE FILES: Jealousy leads to girl’s stabbing

A WOMAN was stabbed to death allegedly by her domestic partner at Campo 5, Barangay Talomo River, Calinan District on Monday afternoon.

Calinan police investigators identified the victim as Aljean Garciano Sotto, 25, house keeper, and resident of the said address. She died from a lone stab wound on the left side portion of her chest.

The suspect was identified as Ronie Sampiano Sabio, 47, self-employed.

Police theorized that the motive was jealousy.

The victim already filed a case for violation of RA 9262 (an act protecting against violence against women and their children) and RA 7610 (child abuse) against Sabio last Jan. 10. He posted a bond for his temporary liberty on Jan. 15.

Sotto took her two children to move to her aunt’s house in Tagum City. But they returned on Jan. 21 apparently to try to save the relationship. They slept overnight at the suspect’s house while the aunt, identified as Marife Garciano, went home to Tagum on Sunday afternoon.

At around 1 p.m. of Monday, her aunt and her husband arrived in the suspect’s house to fetch the victim and her children.

Around 4 p.m. of that same day, the victim tried to leave the house but was prevented by the suspect. They had an argument and Sabio reportedly stabbed the victim. She was brought to the General Robillo hospital in Calinan but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Around 7 p.m. of the same date, the suspect surrendered and is now in the custody of the police.

Meanwhile, the victim’s remains now lie in St. Peter’s Funeral Parlor in Calinan. Noel V. Mausisa/JMC Intern
