POLICE FILES| 94-year-old grandma dies from house fire

A 94-YEAR-OLD grandmother died after her small house was gobbled by fire at 12:05 a.m. yesterday in Santos Village, Sitio Bangkal, Barangay Talomo Proper, Talomo District.

The senior citizen was identified as Marcosa Lucero, the owner of the house.

Initial investigation conducted by elements of Talomo Police Precinct revealed that Lucero was sleeping inside and wasn’t able to get out to safety due to her old age.

Personnel and volunteers of the Talomo Fire Station, Central 911, Catalunan Grande and Matina quickly responded to the incident. Investigators believed that an unattended kerosene lamp was the cause of the fire.

The cost of damage was estimated to reach P50,000.

Landmine recovered

A landmine was reportedly found in Purok 1-A, Barangay Lamanan, Calinan District at around 11 a.m. of Sunday.

Elements of Calinan Police Precinct asked the assistance of the 3rd Infantry Battalion and Task Force Explosive Ordinance (EOD) after receiving information on the bomb.

Upon arriving at the site, they immediately secured the area to fish out the land mine. They found a blasting cap, electrical wires and battery pack in the area.

15 suspects arrested anti-illegal gambling

Fifteen alleged gamblers were arrested in five separate operations on Sunday.

They were identified as Gregorio Carpio, 78; Pacifico Dimuna, 64; Felix Balod, 55; Antonio Barbadillo, 51; Rojon Igagmao, 45; Santiago Ubas, 52; Niño Cabisag, 15, all residents of Sitio Pagan Dryer, Barangay Tamugan, Marilog District.

They were caught in illegal cockfighting. Recovered from them were the P300 bet money and six fighting cocks.

Meanwhile, Esteben Donalo, 51; Joe Casinillo,50; Rene Payao,46; Christopher Te, 29, and Cecilia Amoroso, 46, were also arrested in another operation in Barangay 76-A on Feb. 26. Seized from them were an improvised tally sheet, calculator, plastic tray and bet money amounting to P1,240.
