A PASTOR was arrested by authorities for allegedly carrying unlicensed firearm during a random checkpoint along the highway fronting Sasa public market in Km. 11, Sasa early yesterday morning.

Agents of Sasa Police Precinct and Task Force Davao arrested Filmar Balingit Rodriguez, 36, married, a pastor of Oceans Life Ministries Inc., and resident of Km. 3, Baan Ira Housing in Butuan City.

In an interview yesterday at Davao City Police Office (DCPO), Chief Insp. Emerson Pugong, Sasa Police Precinct commander, said Rodriguez was driving his car from Digos City, Davao del Sur heading toward Tagum City, Davao del Norte as he passed through the checkpoint.

Authorities saw a gun in plain view in the driver seat.

They asked the suspect to present documents to prove he legally owns the gun. But Rodriguez failed to present a gun license and permit to carry firearm.

They then confiscated the Colt MK IV .45 caliber pistol, with serial number 3101748, loaded with a magazine with seven live ammunitions.

Pugong said the suspect is submissive during the apprehension.

“(Rodriguez) said he has received threats,” Pugong said. “That’s why his bringing gun.”

For now, the suspect is under the custody of Sasa Police Precinct pending the filing of case for violation of RA 10591 (Illegal possession of Firearms).
