Partygoers told to be disciplined, vigilant

VICE MAYOR Paolo Duterte urged those planning to attend the June 4 Thanksgiving party of incoming president Rodrigo Duterte to “be disciplined and vigilant.”

The young Duterte said that “will not let their guard down” against those who might plan to sow chaos in the event.

“We do not put our guards down given that there may be those who are willing to risk their lives by attempting to come to the city and peddle drugs,” Paolo posted on his official facebook account. “As we always do, let us work together with the authorities and exercise discipline and vigilance during the celebration.”

Authorities, Duterte said, will impose tight security and strict policies to prevent any untoward incidents during the festivity.

In a recent Close-up Forever Summer party held last May 21 in Pasay City, five persons died reportedly after taking illegal drugs.

The incident irked the elder Duterte who lambasted the failure of intelligence for the incident as he vowed to reshuffle the police and other law enforcement agencies once he assumes office.

Chief Insp. Milgrace C. Driz, DCPO spokesperson, said that 2,000 personnel, including unified force multipliers such as barangay police, will be deployed during the party to provide security.

The report added that about 150 traffic personnel with towing cars will also be deployed in the area.

Retired Col. Rhodelio Poliquit, the head of the City Traffic Management Office, said that there will be no road re-routing, but motorists and commuters, especially those passing the Diversion Road, should expect “bottlenecks.”

Col. Casiano Monilla, deputy commander of 10th Infantry Division, said the military continues to conduct intelligence monitoring for possible threats.

Organizers are expecting at least 100,000 participants in the event.(with Rhoda Grace B. Saron)
