PAL adds flights between Cebu, 3 Mindanao cities

FLAG carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has increased its flight frequency from Cebu to three destinations in Mindanao in a bid to cater additional travelers from the island.

Victor D. Suarez, officer-in-charge of PAL’s Mindanao Sales and Services, said yesterday in the weekly Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao-Annex that they have added flights between Cebu and the Mindanao cities of Davao and Cagayan de Oro.

Suarez said this means there are two flights between Cebu and the two Mindanao cities using its Airbus 320. The current load factor per flight from Cebu to Davao alone is about 80% out of the 180-seater plane.

The airline company has also new route, which is Cebu-Zamboanga.

“We are increasing our flights from Cebu to any other areas in Mindanao as Cebu will soon have an additional international route. So instead on going up to Manila, the people from Visayas and Mindanao can just go directly to Cebu especially next year that it would have a direct flight up to Los Angeles,” Suarez said.

PAL is planning to start its Cebu to Los Angeles flight thrice weekly on March 15, which is in time for the company’s 75th anniversary. It would use its 254-seater Airbus 340 for the long-haul non-stop flight to Los Angeles.

“Our customers in the Visayas and Mindanao have long clamored for direct flights between Cebu and the US due to the travel convenience this will bring,” Jaime Bautista, president and chief operating officer of PAL, said earlier in a statement.

PAL has also international direct flights from Cebu to Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul and Tokyo.
