P860-M farm-to-market approved

THE DEPARTMENT of Agriculture-Regional Project Advisory Board (DA-RPAB), which looks into proposals for rural development, has approved the P860-million farm-to-market road projects for Southern Mindanao.

The DA-RPAB okayed the farm-to-road projects with total length of 59.40 kilometers under the Philippine Rural Development Project.

As of March last year, the approved PRDP funding for Davao Region was P1.22 billion, which were mostly poured for infrastructure development or the I-Build component of PRDP including the establishment of farm-to-market roads in the region.

“The I-Build component aims to put in place strategic and climate-resilient rural infrastructure facilities along the value chain,” cited the briefer of PRDP.

Throughout Mindanao, the indicative portfolio of the island in the project reached P13.584 billion as of November last year to fund both the infrastructure and enterprise development projects. Of the total, P7.65 billion was approved to fund 173 infrastructure projects and P163.39 million for the enterprise component of the project.

The PRDP is a six-year national project under the DA, which started in June 2014. This is jointly funded by the World Bank, national government and local government units.

PRDP Mindanao national deputy project director Arnel De Mesa said in a statement that they are looking to start the midterm review on the project either next month or by June once the engagement of a third-party review team is finalized.

“The review will determine if the project development objectives or PDOs of PRDP are being achieved at this point in the project implementation cycle,” De Mesa said.
