P400-K worth of school supplies given for free

THE LOCAL government is giving free school supplies to residents of Davao City following letters received by the City Mayor’s Office from people asking educational assistance.

“We have been receiving letters asking for assistance of school supplies,” the mayor’s chief of staff, Raul Nadela Jr., said in an interview.

Nadela said the free school supplies is the initiative of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio since there were poor parents who personally went to city hall but had to go home empty-handed.

There are about 4,000 packs of school supplies worth P100 each provided by the city government.

“So when they come here, they can bring something back,” he added. “There are still packs of school supplies left that are expected to be given today.”

Accordingly, this project started two weeks ago but wasn’t publicly announced because it was intended for walk-ins. Nadella said about P400,000 was allocated for this project.

“Hopefully, next year we can again find funding for that,” he said.

Previously, the city has been giving school supplies but was coursed through the different barangays.

Meanwhile, the city government is also planning to send about 500 packs of school supplies for the indigenous people communities in far-flung areas.
