-City approves aid to Ompong victims

The CIty will give P20.5 million to the victims of Typhoon Ompong.

City councilors, during the suspended rules in yesterday’s regular session, approved the ordinance authorizing City Mayor Sara Duterte to release the fund.

 

The city mayor can utilize portion of the 30% Quick Respond Fund (QRF) from the 5% Calamity Fund of the City Government as aid to the local government units declared under the State of Calamity following the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong.

 

A total of P8.5 million assistance will be extended to the victims while P12 million will be allotted for food assistance.

 

 

The provinces of Abra, Benguet, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Isabela, Kalinga and Tuguegarao City were allotted with P1 million each while the municipality of Mayoyao in Ifugao province will get P500,000.

 

 

The city was set to distribute 10,000 food packs yesterday for more than 70,000 families, with 270,000 individuals, displaced due to the typhoon.

 

The typhoon entered the country on Saturday, leaving at least 74 people dead, 74 wounded, and 55 others still missing.

 

Heavy damages on agricultural commodities and infrastructure were also reported.

 

The city has been helping areas affected by typhoon in the past years.
