P15 million damaged in furniture shop fire

AN 11-HOUR fire damaged P15 million-worth of property in a furniture factory in Barangay Bago Aplaya, the second to hit Talomo District within a 24-hour period.

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) XI probers are looking into electrical short circuit, among others, as the possible cause of the fire that hit Pluvial Enterprises, a manufacturer and storage of furniture, located at Seaside in Bago Aplaya, around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

SFO2 Ramil  Gillado, fire  investigator, said the fire was declared out around 1:30 p.m. yesterday.

Gillardo said fire fighters were having difficulty in putting down the fire due to the highly flammable substances inside the confined factory.

It was also noted that the fire hydrant was very far from the scene.

“Fortunately, the fire did not spread to other establishments,” Gillado said. Firewall blocked the fire from spreading to adjacent building, which is also a furniture manufacturing shop.

At least 17 workers of the furniture shop were affected.

The Bago Aplaya fire was the second in less than a 24-hour period in the said district.

Around 4 p.m., a fire broke out in Purok 1, Barangay 76-A (Bucana), also a barangay in Talomo District but is actually situated in poblacion area.

The one-hour fire spread to nearby Barangay 31-D, damaging 24 houses in the slum area.

Gillado said the fire started at the house of Melvonne Daguyong, a Bucana resident.

The estimated cost of damage is place at P900,000.
