One killed, 90 nabbed in anti-criminality ops

ASIDE for the death of one drug suspect, the six-day major clearing operation conducted by the police against criminality and terrorism in different parts of the city led to the arrest of 90 persons.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum told TIMES yesterday that various teams initiated a series of operations in 46 barangays in the city from Aug. 26 until 12 noon yesterday.

The DCPO teamed up with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) XI, Philippine Coast Guard, PNP Maritime XI, Highway Patrol Group (HPG) XI, Crime Laboratory XI, Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB), Central 911, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) XI in the operations.

Tagum said the operations resulted in the implementation of one search warrant, 58 arrest warrants and 30 drug buy-bust operations.

A total of 8.55 grams of shabu with an estimated market value of P102,620 were confiscated. A Starex van and three motorcycles were also seized.

The operating team also recovered one .45 caliber pistol and two .38 caliber revolvers with ammunition.

One suspect was killed and 90 others were arrested.

The fatality was identified as Gilbert Caballero, a resident of Bunawan. Police said he engaged the arresting officer in a shoot-out during the buy-bust in Bunawan.

Tagum said appropriate charges will be filed against those arrested for guns and illegal drugs.
